C. Childs garage
Vermont House, annex (later Childs Garage), and livery (right to left)
17 West Main Street circa 1850 Greek Revival style
Originally part of the Vermont House, this building was converted to a garage in the 1920s by the Childs family, the first owners of the inn across the street. Prior to the invention of the automobile, visitors who arrived by train to stay at local inns could hire out a horse and buggy from a livery stable once located west of this building.
