The lawn to the east of the Crafts Inn was once the site of a building that housed the town’s first newspaper, the Deerfield Valley Times, founded in 1888. The newspaper office shared space over the years with a grocery store and a furniture business until it relocated in 1922. An annual subscription to the paper cost only $1.50 in 1923.
