R. Farwell house

8 East Main Street circa 1870 Gothic Revival style

This is an excellent example of the Gothic Revival style, popular for houses in the 1850s and 1860s. The house appears to reach skyward with vertical features that include board and batten siding, a steeply pitched roof triangular lintels over the windows, and decorative bargeboard along the roof eaves. Mrs. Farwell was an English teacher at the high school for many years.
