Y. Barber House
5 Lisle Hill circa 1806 Federal style
This was Mill Hollow’s first house, built on land deeded to Elijah Allis by Joseph Nye in 1806. Clara Barber purchased the homestead in 1902. Her son Merton enclosed the back porch to create a workroom for the production of maple candy, which he sold through the O.O. Ware store.
In 2003 the Historical Society of Wilmington purchased the property from Muriel Barber Manning to create exhibit and archival space - a great improvement from its former quarters in a closet at Memorial Hall! The museum is open on Saturday afternoons in the summer or by appointment throughout the year. for more information, please call (802)464-0200.
